Mission Statement
The mission of the Oregon Executive Development Institute is to
provide valued resources to our customers through the establishment of professional relationships; sharing of resources and knowledge and to promote
“excellence through education”
The Oregon Executive Development Institute (OEDI) was created in 1989 by a group of forward-thinking public safety agency heads to provide leadership training to Oregon’s public safety executives. This group sought to fill a void in leadership training available to agency heads and their command staff, most of whom could not afford to attend prestigious programs such as the FBI National Academy. OEDI was originally created as a partnership with Oregon’s Public Safety Training Academy and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Today, OEDI has expanded its partners to include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST); the Oregon Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ of Police Associations; the Oregon State Police; the Western Community Policing Institute; the Virginia Center for Policing Innovation; Program Management Academy, George Fox University and Western Oregon University.
For the past 22 years, OEDI has provided some of the best executive leadership training available to public safety professionals in the state of Oregon. Beginning in 2010, we’ve expanded our training opportunities to include military personnel and other associate members representing higher education and sectors of private industry having a direct relationship to the furtherance of public safety and OEDI goals and objectives.
OEDI conducts an annual one week executive leadership training session for current and future Oregon executives. The format of the annual session is in-residence, rural setting with training and networking events that extend into the evening to maximize the week-long course. The training focuses on leadership and executive management issues with an underlying theme of servant leadership.
OEDI also conducts and/or sponsors periodic advanced leadership training, (1-2 day events), together with our partners or in cooperation with other organizations.
OEDI is a non-profit 501(c)3, funded primarily through fees generated from training events, but also receives revenue from membership dues, donations and grants. If you would like to make a tax deductable contribution to the Oregon Executive Development Institute, please contact us through our website or mail a check directly to OEDI, P.O. Box 1156 Newport, OR 97365.
The OEDI Board of Directors is responsible for management of the organization. The Board includes public safety professionals, both current and retired. There are four officers; President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, six Directors and the past president.
OEDI also has a number of committees and workgroups to help get the work done including: Curriculum, Marketing, Membership, Funding & Budget, Session Planning, and Advanced Training Committees; and By-Laws and Website Workgroups. If you have skills in one or more of these areas and would like to put your talents to work, please contact us through the website and come join the team!
OEDI’s vision is to partner with public and private sector organizations to develop executives that value and apply contemporary knowledge and leadership skills, striving for excellence and enhancing service to their organizations and communities. OEDI will achieve this by providing relevant, cutting-edge training and education and developing a professional network for information sharing, problem solving and collaboration.
In 2009, OEDI began providing and/or sponsoring advanced training, (1-2 day events), in partnership with other organizations. This year, OEDI is proud to be a sponsor of the Oregon Public Safety Leadership Symposium, June 28-July 2, 2010 at the Department of Public safety Standards and training.
OEDI will be conducting a 1-day advanced training in conjunction with the Executive Leadership Training Seminar (ELTS) in February 2011. The OEDI advanced training will be held at the Seaside Convention Center. Watch for details!
